Summer, here we come

I just attended my last class at Purdue… EVER. Yes, it’s a super weird feeling. I’ve been attending classes for 16 years and knowing I’m never going to take another class in my life is very strange. However, that just means it’s finally time to think about summer.

Whether you just had your last class of freshman year or last class of senior year, I want to give you a bunch of summer activities to take advantage of if you’re staying on or near campus.

Take a look at 10 fun things you can do this summer:

  1.  Purdue Farmers Market
    • Day/Time: EVERY Thursday, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
    • Location: Memorial Mall, North End
    • Fresh garden vegetables, fruits, flowers, baked goods, crafts, honey, jams and jellies. Short-term, 20-minute parking will also be available during the market on Oval Drive. Additional parking is available in the Grant Street Parking Garage.
  2.  Wines on the Wabash 2017
    • Day/Time: Friday, May 19, from 7-10 p.m.
    • Location: Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms
    • The event features over 100 different wines from a broad range of wineries, beer tastings, a silent auction and light hors d’oeuvres. Attendees must be over the age of 21.
  3.  Lafayette Farmer’s Market
    • Day/Time: EVERY Saturday, from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    • Location: Downtown Lafayette
    • The Lafayette Farmer’s Market promises some of the finest and freshest produce, as well as an enjoyable opportunity to browse one of Indiana’s oldest outdoor markets.

  4.  Taste of Tippecanoe
    • Day/Time: Saturday, June 17, from 4 p.m.-Midnight
    • Location: Downtown Lafayette and West Lafayette
    • Features live music on multiple stages, food booths by local restaurants, fireworks, children’s activity area and beer and wine gardens.

  5.  Chicago Trip
    • Day/Time: Saturday, July 8, from 9 a.m.-10 p.m.
    • Location: Chicago, Ill.
    • Do you want to take a break from campus and explore a big city? PSUB is sponsoring a trip to Chicago for just $25. Pickup will be at the Stewart Center and drop-offs will be at Navy Pier. Spend the entire day doing whatever you want! Visit museums, parks, restaurants, the beach and much more! Sign-up in PMU Room 268. PU Student ID required.
  6.  Wabash Riverfest
    • Day/Time: Saturday, July 8, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
    • Location: Tapawingo Park, West Lafayette
    • Riverfest is an annual event that brings the community together and celebrates the living Wabash River with conservation exhibits, games, activities, canoe races and a 5K.

  7.  Mosey Down Main Street
    • Day/Time: Saturday, July 8, from 6-11 p.m.
    • Location: Downtown Lafayette
    • Mosey Down Main Street is a series of street celebrations brought to you by the local artistic community. Volunteers, downtown business owners, artists and musicians come together once a month from May through September to offer a free family friendly event that takes place right down the center of Main Street.

  8.  Wolf Park and People’s Brewery Present: Brew on the Bridge
    • Day/Time: Saturday, July 22, from 7-10 p.m.
    • Location: Wolf Park, Battle Ground, Ind.
    • Enjoy a special outdoor concert in the park and find out more here.
  9.  Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair
    • Day/Time: Sunday, July 23-Saturday, July 29
    • Location: Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, Lafayette
    • Fun family entertainment for all since 1930. Great entertainment, quality music, buildings of crafts and fine handiworks, all phases of agriculture, a wide variety of youth activities, carnival rides and mouth-watering fair food.

  10.  Summer Destress Fest
    • Day/Time: Tuesday, August 1, from 3-6 p.m.
    • Location: CoRec Feature Gym
    • Take a break from the stress of finals and come to the CoRec for some relaxation. Enjoy an oxygen bar, massage chairs, five-minute massages, food, and activities.
